About Chitresh Shrivastva
Chitresh Shrivastva is currently pursuing his doctorate in Public Policy from JAIN (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru, India, on Governance of High–Speed Rail in India: A Case Study of Mumbai-Ahmedabad Region. His M.Phil. thesis focused on the Foreign Direct Investment in Indian Railways. He is currently associated with the Department of Media Studies, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru. He has served as the Board of Advisors and Senior Non-Resident Fellow for Railways and Critical Transport Infrastructure at the Global Policy Insights, a Delhi-based Think Tank. His core area of research is based on domestic and global railway policies, focusing on sectoral investments in Indian Railways, Public-Private Partnerships in the railway sector, and High-Speed Railways. He has published in prestigious outlets, including Dainik Bhaskar, The Hindu, The Stimson Centre, The South Asia Centre, the London School of Economics, The Asia and Pacific Society, Crawford School of Public Policy at Australian National University, Down to Earth, Rail Business [FOCUS INDIA], Global Railway Review, and International Union of Railways. His paper, "Border Region Railway Development in Sino-Indian Geopolitical Competition," co-authored with Stabak Roy and Dhruv Ashok, was published by the Indian Council of World Affairs, a think tank under the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. His upcoming publication with Palgrave Macmillan focuses on the pursuit of railways as a diplomatic instrument.
He has been featured on prominent podcasts such as the BBC podcast on Indian Railway Electrification, B1M Media on India’s High-Speed Rail, On the Right Track Podcast by Global Railway Review, focusing on the opportunities and challenges to India’s Railway Modernisation Programme. In November 2022, he was invited by the Ministry of Railways to speak on railway diplomacy at the 6th Rail India Conference, hosted by the Ministry of Railways and Messe Frankfurt, India. He was also invited by the University of Aachen, Germany, to guide students on India’s High-Speed Rail project, which has gained significant interest in Germany. Mr Shrivastva represents CHRIST (Deemed to be University) at the Alliance of Universities for High-Speed Rail Development under the International Union of Railways, marking CHRIST as the first Indian university in this elite group. His research interests include global and domestic railway policies. He serves as a peer reviewer for journals, including Indian Economic Review and Media Watch (SAGE).
